JOB 2104 - Trinity Lutheran Church, Laramie WY
Trinity Evangelical Lutheran
Church was founded in Laramie, WY 1884 as the First Scandinavian Evangelical
Lutheran Church. Its first building was
a small wood structure on the west side of Laramie. As with many churches at that time, services
were conducted in the Scandinavian languages of the founding families. It was not until 1906 that services were
conducted in English. By 1925 the city
and congregation had grown to the point where a new church building was
needed. Services have been held in this
new church since that time.
For many years music at
Trinity Lutheran had been led by an aging electronic. As it aged it became more and more unreliable. In response to this situation, members of the
congregation compiled a report on service instruments, looking at the different
options available to them for leading the musical portions of worship. This report was completed in August
2010. In 2011, after more than a year of
careful consideration, the decision was made to pursue a moderately sized pipe
organ.
We were first contacted by Trinity
Lutheran late in 2011. My first visit to
the church was for a Sunday service and a discussion after. In the year that followed we composed a
proposal for an organ of two manuals and pedal, with twelve stops and twelve
ranks. This instrument included a
refurbished Holtkamp stop tab console, new and repurposed pipework, new chests,
and a new organ relay and capture system.
The casework was designed to act as a frame of the historic painting
which had been placed in the center of the rear chancel wall for more than a
century. The sound of the organ is a
wonderful proportion to the moderately sized space. It is warm and embracing without being
overpowering. It contains well-knit
vertical ensembles, and a wide array of color relative to the size of the
instrument.
